RIYADH: Reacting to recent media reports in the Kingdom, the Indian Embassy announced here Monday that the surrender of multiple passports of Indian expatriate workers can only be done at the time of passport renewal at the Indian missions in Riyadh and Jeddah.
In recent days, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh turned away a large number of Indian expatriates who tried to surrender multiple passports.
"The media information had raised questions about the rules and procedures pertaining to the surrender of multiple passports held by Indian nationals in the Kingdom," a senior embassy official said on Monday.
Although possessing multiple passports is illegal, the diplomat said that the mission will only impose a SR420 penalty on such passport holders.
The official said when an expired passport is renewed and the applicant is found to be in possession of two or more passports, the applicant will be required to complete the Personal Particulars Form (PPF), and provide a sworn affidavit with his correct personal particulars in the prescribed form and any other document which he wishes to enclose with the application to prove his identity.
These documents will then be sent to the Passport Issuing Authority or authorities concerned for verification of particulars. Once a confirmation is received, the embassy will cancel the duplicate passports and issue a fresh passport.
